Yiska Obadia is a licensed acupuncturist who graduated from Tai Sophia Institute with a Masters Degree in Acupuncture in January 2007. Born in NYC, she moved to Israel in 1994 where she discovered a passion for bodywork which earned her certification in various styles of massage therapy, including deep-tissue massage. Prior to attending Tai Sophia Yiska attended another Chinese medicine program in Israel before returning to the United States. This program brought her to China for a 3 month internship at the Traditional Chinese Medicine Teaching Hospital in Chengdu. She also comes to her acupuncture practice with a background in reflexology and doula work. Yiska obtained her B.A. from SUNY Empire State College majoring in holistic health. It was her interest in holistic health that eventually brought her to the study of Five Element Acupuncture with its emphasis on treating the whole individual, body, mind and spirit, rather than a symptom or a disease. In addition to acupuncture, she is currently offering massage therapy services. See contacts for details. Yiska has proudly written her first book, Transformative Nutrition and is currently offering group courses and private coaching using the work. See below for more information.

The Philosophy Behind POV
The name for this practice, Points of View Acupuncture comes from the nature of this healing art, which is to keep energy moving smoothly and freely. Dis-ease of the body-mind-spirit is the result of blocked or stuck energy. In our lives one of the most potent ways to unblock our energy is to shift our perspective, to consider other “points of view”. Whether things move by virtue of changing our point of view alone or whether by our capacity to see a new possibility we are moved to take alternative actions, there is no doubt this is a powerful way to move energy and create change. Acupuncture generally and five-element acupuncture in particular can help to anchor and facilitate these shifts and the embodied impact of our own “stuckness”. The aim is to empower its recipients to create their most ideal life on all levels.
The Five Elements
The five elements are water, wood, fire, earth and metal and each one corresponds with a season; winter, spring, summer, late summer and autumn respectively. Together they provide a framework for grasping the movements in nature; the rise and fall, the ebb and flow of life. Each element is associated with particular gifts, corresponding organ systems, senses, emotions, climatic factors, etc. Five-element acupuncture uses the 5 elements as a diagnostic lens with which to understand the nature of energy in our patients. This lens in turn is used in treatment planning as the practitioner works with each client to determine how best to nurture and preserve that individual’s dynamic balance of energy for optimum health and personal growth.
Yiska's Approach to Treatment
Yiska’s commitment to personal growth and transformation enters the treatment room as she encourages patients to reflect upon and create new ways of being that will transform their own lives. Across the board Yiska values patient empowerment and is a compassionate partner on the healing journey to all her patients. Her approach engages people in all aspects of their being, body, mind and spirit. She works together with her patients to create the kind of lifestyle shifts that will improve their quality of life. She approaches symptoms as invaluable teachers, messengers of the body’s innate wisdom, believing that the power to heal lies within each of us. Acupuncture simply awakens people to this wisdom and power. |
